While conducting often seems like a magical and unique form of communication between ensembles and conductors, there are some basic elements of conducting that form a common language for maestri and musicians. This lecture will focus on basic concepts and terminology that are fundamental to understanding the role of conductors, as well as the evolution of conducting throughout the first half of opera history (1600-1850).

This course has four sessions. To purchase all sessions of Opera Boot Camp: Introduction to Conductors and Conducting, please click here.

This session will be held in the Opera Learning Center, located on the 6th Floor of the Samuel B. and David Rose Building at Lincoln Center, 65th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. For questions, please call the LCE Ticket Line at 212-769-7028, Monday-Friday 10am-4pm.
